After months of hard work pulling what can only be described as an ‘epic’ Sunflower Jam together, Jacky Paice and the team finally got to head over to the College of Medicine armed with a cheque!!
For those of you lucky enough to attend The Sunflower Jam back in September, you’ll know what an amazing night it was but it’s easy to forget that the gig is not the end result. There’s a reason why Alice Cooper, Brian May, Ian Paice, John Paul Jones, Bruce Dickinson, Alfie Boe, Sandi Thom, a host of first class musicians, a huge production team and thousands of people gather at the Royal Albert Hall each year: to raise money to research integrated and non-toxic treatments for cancer. This year The Sunflower Jam are proud to announce that the charity’s founder, Jacky Paice, presented a cheque for an amazing £40,000 to Mustafa Djamgoz, chairman of the College of Medicine’s Science Council.
This year, as many of you know, The Sunflower Jam lost Jon Lord: a family member, dear friend and legendary musician. Jon succumbed to pancreatic cancer in July 2012 and the money raised from this year’s event will be used to fund research into integrated approaches to fighting this devastating disease.
A portion of the money will fund The Jon Lord Fellowship, an evidence-based review (critique) on “Integrated Management of Pancreatic Cancer”. The rest of the money will be awarded to selected pilot projects aimed at generating new feasibility data on specific integrated approaches to pancreatic cancer.
The Sunflower Jam team will be working closely with Mustafa Djamgoz and The College of Medicine to review their progress over the coming year and we will, of course, keep you all up to date with what’s going on. On behalf of ourselves here at The Sunflower Jam and the College of Medicine, we want to take this opportunity (again!) to thank you all for your ongoing support. We simply couldn’t do this without you!
Love and best wishes
The Sunflower Jam Team
